OK … it’s not exactly the legendary rock band, but The Nature Conservancy makes it possible for you to eavesdrop on nesting bald eagles on California’s Santa Cruz Island. Just over a dozen years ago, bald eagles were on the verge of extinction. But through the efforts of the National Park Service and dedicated organizations and volunteers, our national symbol is making a big comeback.
Scientists believe that roughly 50 bald eagles call the Santa Cruz area home and now the Institute of Wildlife Studies has web cams in the birds’ nesting area. Viewers can watch the eagles’ behavior in real time, check out highlight videos, learn from eagle experts and find out more about the history of bald eagles on Santa Cruz Island. It’s hard to beat the reality television you can find right here.
