Glass Recycling Information

Next time you’re headed out to the curb with your recyclables, here are some things to remember about glass recycling.

Every year the US produces about 12.5 million tons of glass and roughly 30% of it gets recycled.  Virgin glass is made from a mixture of sand, soda ash and limestone.  Recycled glass can be added to this combination to lessen the use of other ingredients and reduce the air pollution by-products created in the process by nearly 20%.  Glass recycling saves over 25% of the energy that is needed to create glass with virgin materials and the glass recycling process employs roughly 30,000 workers nationwide.  You can learn more about glass recycling and more facts here.
