Dealing With Water Damage

Water damage can have a negative impact on your indoor air quality and economic well-being.  That’s why it’s extremely important to conduct semi-regular spot checks of your plumbing.  In addition to preventing water waste, any leak you discover, no matter how small or remote, needs immediate attention.

If you encounter water damage, via leak, broken pipe or rain-related flooding, it’s crucial to dry all areas and items within 48 hours to prevent mold growth. Replace water absorbent items such as carpets, upholstery and ceiling tiles that have had extensive exposure to water, because unhealthy mold remnants will remain embedded long after the area is dry.  Untreated wood – plywood especially – is also susceptible to permanent damage from water exposure.  For other hard services exposed to mold, the results are usually better.  Wash extensively with detergent and water, then dry completely for a positive outcome.
