Windows play a big role in the amount of energy you use. They go a long way in heating and cooling your home efficiently. Here are three things to keep in mind. First, look at your window’s NFRC rating -- the four numbers that show how well a window lets in or blocks heat and light. The lower the numbers, the better. Next, make sure your windows are insolated effectively. Wood and vinyl are especially good choices.
Finally, if you have flexibility, think about how many windows you want and where they go. Especially in cold climates, consider south facing windows – with awnings if possible. The windows will help heat your room in the winter and the awnings will keep sun out in the summer.
