Water Savings

It’s time to focus on two ways to save water around your house.

28% of the average home’s water use is in its toilets.  You can displace some water in your toilet tank by purchasing commercially-sold devices.  Or make your own by using two plastic bottles.  Give them a layer of sand or pebbles, fill them up with water and place them safely away from the workings in the tank.  Either method can save you over 10 gallons a day.  And when it’s time to replace your toilet, buy a low flush model.  They use about half the amount of water of a traditional unit and can cut your overall usage by 30%.

The same upgrade philosophy applies to showers and faucets.  Faucet aerators replace water flow with air, reducing the amount of water volume by as much as 50%.  Low-flow shower heads keep the same water pressure, but also can reduce volume by nearly half.  Visit eartheasy.com to learn more about the types of products that can reduce your water use.
